A CASE REPORT: RISK OF ELECTRIC INJURY ON DELAYED INITIAL TREATMENT

In the realm of medical emergencies, electric injuries stand out for their complexity and potentially devastating consequences. Join us as we delve into a gripping case from Dr. Soebandi Jember General Hospital, where a routine household activity turned into a life-altering event for a young man.

A 26-year-old rushes into the ER, gasping for breath and battling severe urinary issues. His ordeal began with a simple act: flipping on a fan. Little did he know, that innocent gesture would lead to bilateral pulmonary effusion, systemic edema, and acute tubular necrosis (ATN). This cascade of symptoms, including uveitis, hemorrhage, and even hematemesis, painted a grim picture of the havoc wrought by electric shock.

At Dr. Soebandi Jember, we specialize in the intricate dance of emergency medicine, intensive care, and surgical prowess. Our approach was swift and comprehensive—stabilizing the patient, addressing systemic complications, and considering surgical interventions like skin grafts to salvage damaged tissue.

Beyond the immediate chaos, this case taught us invaluable lessons in early detection and proactive management of electric injuries. Vigilance can mean the difference between recovery and irreversible damage, particularly in mitigating acute kidney injury (AKI) risks.

Our commitment extends beyond treatment—it's about empowerment through knowledge. Follow our journey as we unravel the complexities of electric injuries, sharing insights that elevate understanding and inspire better healthcare practices.
