MANDIBULR CONDYLE FRACTURE MANAGEMENT OUTCOME IN DEPARTMENT OF PLASTIC RECONSTRUCTIVE AND AESTHETIC SURGERY, DR. SOETOMO GENERAL ACADEMIC HOSPITAL (2015-2018)

Comprehensive Study on Mandibular Condyle Fracture Management at Dr. Soetomo General Academic Hospital (2015-2018)

The mandibular ramus's stronger resistance compared to the head condyle results in a high incidence of condyle mandible fractures. Managing these fractures remains controversial due to varied prognoses. The goal is to minimize morbidity, postoperative complications, and aesthetic or functional impairments.

Our retrospective study reviewed medical records of 56 patients treated for condyle mandible fractures at Dr. Soetomo General Academic Hospital from January 2015 to December 2018. We analyzed patient characteristics (age), fracture types, management techniques, and outcomes.

Results:

  • Patient Demographics: Out of 56 patients, 84% were male and 16% female, with ages ranging from 12 to 67 years (mean age: 28.25 ± 1.78 years).
  • Fracture Analysis: 22 patients had isolated mandibular condyle fractures, while 34 had additional maxillofacial fractures.
  • Management Techniques: 22 patients underwent closed reduction, and 26 underwent open reduction.
  • Outcomes: Good occlusion results were observed in 48 patients, highlighting the effectiveness of the management protocols.

The management of condyle mandibular fractures at Dr. Soetomo Hospital aligns with treatment indications, yielding excellent results. This study underscores the importance of tailored treatment approaches based on patient-specific factors.
